Art and Science of Practical Spirituality
An interdisciplinary exploration of spirituality as a lived science by integrating Indian Knowledge Systems, philosophy, psychology, and contemporary inquiry. A fundamental course designed for sincere seekers who wish to think deeply, live consciously, and engage responsibly with spiritual knowledge.
Overview
This course offers a structured and scholarly introduction to the arts and sciences of spirituality, grounded in Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) and enriched through dialogue with modern disciplines such as philosophy of science, psychology, ethics, and consciousness studies.
Rather than treating spirituality as belief, dogma, or mere self-help, the course approaches it as a systematic domain of inquiry—with its own epistemologies, methodologies, and lived applications. Participants will engage with foundational concepts, classical Indic texts, and contemporary interpretations, learning to distinguish spirituality from religion, superstition, and pseudoscience.
Intent
In an age marked by anxiety, fragmentation, and superficial engagement with both science and spirituality, there is an urgent need for clarity, depth, and intellectual honesty.
This course responds to three pressing contemporary gaps:
-
The absence of rigorous spiritual education in mainstream academia
-
The reduction of spirituality to wellness trends or religious identity
-
The growing confusion between faith, belief, and knowledge
By articulating spirituality as a discipline of inquiry and transformation, the course empowers learners to engage thoughtfully with their inner selves, that is, without abandoning rationality, ethical responsibility, or a scientific temper.
Structure
This is a 12-session foundational course, offered in collaboration with the Institute of Science and Spirituality Delhi.
The course is designed to focus on:
-
Core spiritual questions: self, consciousness, knowledge, purpose
-
Foundational Indic frameworks and terminologies
-
Methods of inner inquiry (adhyātma-vidyā)
-
Interfaces between spirituality, science, and ethics
This foundational course prepares learners for advanced thematic courses on consciousness studies, Bhagavadgītā, Indian epistemology, applied spirituality, and comparative traditions.
No prior background in philosophy or Saṃskṛta is required. Only sincerity and an open approach to inquiry are expected.
