Mahāgaṇapati Vaibhavam
This Gaṇeśa Caturthī let us delve into the tattva of Mahā-Gaṇapati as revealed in the Veda, Purāṇa, Tantra, and Yoga traditions, followed by learning the pūjā and tarpaṇa rituals.
Overview
Gaṇeśa is revered across traditions as the supreme deity of wisdom, abundance, and speech. In the Vedas, he is invoked as brahmāṇspati, nidhipati, and vākpati, while in the Purāṇas, he is identified with Bṛhaspati. From the Āgamic (tāntrika) perspective, Gaṇeśa is celebrated as the paramātman, presiding over sṛṣṭi (creation), sthiti (sustenance), and laya (dissolution). Yogic traditions venerate him as the mūlādhāra-kṣetra-adhipati, the guardian and controller of kuṇḍalinī. Thus, throughout the vaidika and spiritual corpus, Gaṇeśa holds his place as a sovereign ruler and the gateway to auspicious beginnings.
Intent
Why tarpaṇa? Because Gaṇeśa is tarpaṇa-priya - delighted in offerings of heartfelt gratitude and surrender. It is said that without tarpaṇa, the siddhi in Gaṇeśa-upāsanā is incomplete.
This Gaṇeśa Caturthī, let us align with the divine energy full of śraddhā and bhakti!
