Lectures by Dr. Kanniks Kannikeswaran on the 250th birth anniversary of Muttusvāmi Dīkṣitar
Dr. Kanniks Kannikeswaran presents a discourse on music to bring out the essence of Dīkṣitar as an integrator, whose compositions and storytelling are very relevant to the 21st century.
Dīkṣitar was more than a composer. His work bridges northern and southern Bhārata, song and kṣetra, Sanskrit and Tamil, Veda and rāga. In an era before political unification, he modeled what geocultural integration looks like: respectful, inventive, and deeply rooted in dharma.
His incorporation of Hindustani elements into the Carnatic canon was a civilizational connection that united the sacred whole. And the year 2025 marks the 250th birth anniversary; hence Dr. Kannikeswaran presents his discourse on music ‘to bring out the essence of Dikshitar as an integrator, whose compositions and story telling are very relevant to the 21st century.’
